George Washington Birthday Celebration

Old Town is really into George Washington - and for President's day weekend, aka George Washington's birthday, there are lots of things to do here.

On Sunday, we participated in the GW 10K race and the 2K fun run. Andrew and a bunch of my friends from work did the 10K (results here), and I did the 2K with Blaire's dog Monkey who we were dog sitting for the long weekend. It was cold and windy and they all ran really fast. After the run we got breakfast at the TradeMark in the Westin - very few places in walking distance were open that early. Nice atmosphere, OK food, but the service was really bad. The Whole Foods buffet may have been a better bet.

On Monday, we walked three blocks over to Fairfax St. and watched the George Washington Birthday parade. There were people in the parade that are the 5th great niece/nephew of George. Very cool. Afterwards, we planned to check out the Historic Alexandria "open houses," but instead we played ball with Monkey in the Lyles-Crouch field. Everyone loved on him.

What's not to love?
