As first time home buyers, we didn't notice some things until we moved in. For example, the bedrooms did not have overhead lighting. That became one of the first projects we wanted to tackle because I love a lot of light. And after a hot summer we learned that ceiling fans would be good too.
There are three bedrooms upstairs - two need ceiling fans/lights and one needed a light fixture. We were looking for something a bit different from the traditional style ceiling fans but also not too modern because that would not fit with our decor. Another challenge was fan size. Our master bedroom would look good with a typical 52'' ceiling fan, but a fan that size would overpower the guest room. For that room we searched for a 38'' or 42'' fan, but it was not easy - especially in a nontraditional style.
I spent countless hours looking for ceiling fans and couldn't find anything I loved. While driving on N. Patrick street in Old Town I saw the Alexandria Lighting & Supply store and went in. We went back three more times before placing an order (I had to be certain!) and they were great. Josh helped us and he clearly has a passion for interior lighting and design. He was fun, quick, picked up on our taste and suggested "integrated" ceiling fans which means the light part and fan blades are stacked giving a sleek/clean look. We loved it. The fans were about $100 more each than buying at Home Depot or something, but totally worth it because of the customer service, and we got high-quality Kichler fans that look awesome.
So, then we needed an electrician. A block from us is Becker Electric. That seemed like a good place to start so they came and gave us an estimate. It was reasonable and we mailed in the deposit - they are old school. They came a few weeks later (I had to take off work) and it took them just over two hours to complete the project. I was impressed.

Love the ceiling fan/light combos! Can't wait to give the fan a "spin" in April!
