Folklife Festival Basque Style

A few Sundays ago Andrew did a quick search on what to do with kids in DC and stumbled upon the Smithsonian Folklife Festival. The theme was the Basque country, which is where we went on our honeymoon, so we thought why not check it out. The activities started at 11, but we went early as the parking trick on the mall is to get there a little before 10AM. The Smithsonians open at 10, and much after that it is hard to find a spot.

So we got there early and happened to park in front of the Air & Space museum. We let Lucy run around, and we saw a short Sesame Street film at 10:30 in their IMAX. This was Lucy's first "movie" - she thought it was pretty cool, but also thought the chairs that automatically fold up when you get up were pretty cool too. So she was up and down and pushing on all the open chairs discovering this.

At 11AM we headed out to the mall.

We followed the sound of music and did our best at Basque dancing. Lucy had fun. So did Andrew!

Then Lucy did some Basque bowling. She actually knocked down the pin!

We loved learning about the culture. We didn't do these types of things on the honeymoon, but wished there was a way we could have. It gave us insight to the people and the country.

After that we had a little picnic on the mall, and everyone took long naps.
