Trummers on Main

While not in Old Town, we would never have found Trummers on Main if not living in Virginia.

At 33 weeks pregnant with extreme lower back pain, I told Andrew that I would like to play one last round of golf, just to see if I could do it. Andrew was all on this - finding a place for us to golf and a place for dinner afterwards. He chose Westfields because he figured a nicer course would be easier for me to play. We had a mid-afternoon tee time to ensure that we could tee off alone - at least that is what we were told. I don't love getting paired up with randoms, especially when I was not even sure if I could still hit the ball given my bump situation.

But we get there and of course we're paired with two other singles. She is a GW law prof who works with people at the Chamber and he does construction in Clifton. I'm thinking, OK, I can do this. It was 90+ degrees and humid as heck, but my back was feeling better and better as we played more and I was hitting the ball just fine. I even got par on a hole. Yay!

Near the end of the round I told the guy from Clifton that we wanted to do dinner at Trummers on Main (near Westfields golf course) but couldn't get a res. I asked him if he knew it given that he lives in the area. And that's when he told us he owns it. Crazy!

He bought and renovated the historic Clifton Hotel - a place where Presidents and generals have visited since 1869. He told us his daughter manages the place and that we would be able to get a table.

We go, but no table - I didn't want to name drop - so we sit in the bar area and had a great time. It was restaurant week and the menu was limited, but still awesome. The kale salad rocked.

After dinner I spot the owners daughter, so I go chat with her. Then we check out the rest of the restaurant and in the main dining room and I spot one of my colleagues having dinner with her lady friends. 30 miles outside of DC and there she is. Funny.

This place is always ranked as a top restaurants in the DC area and now I know why. Oh, and while looking up their website for this post, I discovered their executive chef is from Wisconsin, and came from the Inn at Little Washington in Washington, VA. Now I love it even more.

This was a round I won't forget.
